ENG 95: English Lab is for learners with Accuplacer testing scores in Reading from
250 to 259 and/or in Writing from 240 to 259. This course is also for learners who
have successfully completed ENG 90. Learners will take ENG 95 concurrently with first-semester
courses.
In addition, learners who are not required to take the course but feel they would
benefit from the course can add it by request. There are limited seats available,
and they are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Learners who wish to enroll
in this pass/fail zero credit course may contact RegistrationManagment@Nightingale.edu.
Prior to the term they will be enrolled, learners will receive email communication
asking to confirm that they still wish to take the course. If no reply is received,
the learner will not be enrolled.
Learners enrolled in ENG 95 may or may not be enrolled in another English Course.
ENG 95 is designed to help learners build reading and writing skills indicated as
an area for improvement on the Accuplacer test. This is a non-credit bearing course.
To satisfy the course engagement requirement, learners must complete ten (10) activities
within the semester. Learners who do not complete the required activities will be
enrolled in the ENG 95 course in subsequent semesters until required activities are
completed within the semester.
The course will provide weekly instructional materials throughout ten (10) modules,
which are formatted as articles, graphics, and videos. Additionally, a weekly webinar
will be available. Attendance at webinars is not mandatory but is strongly encouraged.
In addition, learners in ENG 95 may meet with writing center or library tutors to
review weekly materials individually, or they may attend a group drop-in tutoring
session. The tutoring sessions are designed to assist learners who would like further
assistance with course material or learners with webinar scheduling conflicts.
After completing the requirements above, learners will complete a 10-point quiz on
the materials presented in the module. Learners may take quizzes as many times as
necessary to learn the material. All quizzes will open the first day of the semester
and will be available to learners through Friday at 5 p.m. of Week 10. Learners may
choose their preferred order and time to complete the modules. Successful completion
of the course is obtained when the learner passes ten (10) quizzes with the minimum
score. Upon completion of the ten (10) activities, learners will receive an email
notification that they have successfully passed the course.
Note: This course is not a required part of any academic program; is not college-level;
is not Title IV eligible; is not transferrable to another institution; is not part
of any institutional or programmatic accreditation grant; and is offered as a means
of preparation for college-level algebra courses, with pass/fail grading.
