Professional Licensure Disclosures

Background
Nightingale College (the College) offers four programs that lead to professional licensure within the State of Utah. States vary in what professions they require to be licensed and how licensure functions. Some states require an individual to graduate from an approved program. Others require an individual to “meet [the] certification requirements of a national organization”. A specific amount of training can also be required as well as passage of an exam based on a state requisite exam score.

State Authorization
Nightingale College is a member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (NC-SARA) which allows the College to provide distance learning programs (both online and in the form of supervised field experiences) and coursework to residents of states other than Utah. NC-SARA membership, however, does not grant reciprocity or exempt the College from state professional licensing requirements. As a result, licensing requirements in Utah may not be recognized as sufficient to obtain a license in any other state.

Relocation
Relocating during the course of a program to another state may impact if the learner can remain in the program, meet the state licensure requirements and/or continue to receive federal funding. Prior to considering relocation, the College encourages learners to contact their program director to discuss authorization and licensure eligibility requirements.

Responsibility of Learners
Learners should review the specific academic requirements for the program in which they are enrolling, including those related to practicum/internship as well as pre-qualifications for licensure such as the need for a criminal background check. The College highly recommends that learners contact the applicable licensure board(s) in their state of residence or in the state where they intend to obtain a license before beginning an academic program that results in licensure and prior to beginning any internship/practicum. Licensure boards may require more than successful degree completion to obtain a license. Please be advised that state laws, regulations, and policies may change at any time. Changes in requirements can impact the program’s ability to meet educational requirements for licensure. It is the responsibility of the learner completing the licensure program to check with the licensing board(s) in their state of residence or in the state in which they intend to obtain a license for the most recent information and requirements.

Licensing Disclosures
If a learner plans to pursue licensure in a state that is considered undetermined in the list below, the learner must contact that state for specific information relative to that state’s nursing practice act. This contact should be made as early as possible after the location decision has been made.

The table below indicates one of three options regarding program licensure for the Master of Science Family Nurse Practitioner program, the college has determined: the program meets the education requirements for licensure; the program does not meet the education requirements for licensure; or a determination has not been made as to whether the program meets the education requirements that lead to licensure or not. For these purposes, “states” include the District of Columbia and the US protectorates, as defined in 34 CFR §600.2.

The table below indicates one of three options regarding program licensure for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, the college has determined: the program meets the education requirements for licensure; the program does not meet the education requirements for licensure; or a determination has not been made as to whether the program meets the education requirements that lead to licensure or not. For these purposes, “states” include the District of Columbia and the US protectorates, as defined in 34 CFR §600.2.

Nightingale College endeavors to make a reasonable effort to determine learner eligibility for licensure. However, due to the ever-changing nature of statues, rules, and regulations of the varying states/territories, the below list cannot be considered a guarantee for licensure. Learners are strongly encouraged to contact their local state board of nursing for the most up to date eligibility requirements.
