Payment Forbearance for California BRN Licensure Testing Delays

1. What is this?

If your California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) licensure exam has been delayed for reasons outside your control, Nightingale can pause payments on your Nightingale balance while you wait to test. For Bridge Loan borrowers, no interest is charged during this time. For cash-pay balances, Nightingale won't try to collect or send your balance to a collections agency during this time.

2. Who is eligible?

You qualify if both of these are true:

  • You have one of the following:
    • An active Nightingale Bridge Loan (institutional loan) balance serviced by Tuition Options or Clasp, or
    • A cash-pay balance owed directly to Nightingale (not on a structured repayment plan)
  • Your licensure testing is affected by a documented CA BRN delay

3. What is paused?

Bridge Loan

Cash-pay balance

Payments

Paused

Paused. No collection activity, and your balance won't be sent to a collections agency for nonpayment

Interest

Not charged during forbearance, and not added to your balance later

Not applicable (cash-pay balances don't accrue interest)

4. How do I request forbearance?

Email bursar@nightingale.edu with a screenshot showing you've submitted your BRN exam application. Once we verify it, we'll place your account into forbearance.

5. When does forbearance start?

Forbearance is effective May 1, 2026, once your documentation is received and verified.

6. Do I need to contact Tuition Options or Clasp?

No. The Bursar Function works with your loan servicer for you.

7. Do I need to tell Nightingale when I've tested?

No. Nightingale receives your testing results directly. You're always welcome to email the Bursar Function if you have questions about your status.

8. What happens after I test?

Once Nightingale is notified that you've tested (pass or fail), you get a 60-day grace period. After that, payments resume. For Bridge Loan borrowers, interest starts again at the same time. Interest is not charged for the forbearance or grace period.

9. What if the BRN delay is resolved and I become eligible to test?

The CA BRN and Nightingale will announce when the delay is resolved. Your 60-day window to sit for the exam starts on the date of that announcement.

  • If you test within the window: the 60-day post-test grace period in #8 applies.
  • If you don't test within the window: forbearance ends right away. Payments resume, normal collection activity can restart, and for Bridge Loan borrowers, interest starts again.

10. I have federal or private student loans. Does this apply to them?

No. This covers only Nightingale Bridge Loan and cash-pay balances. For questions about federal or private loans, contact defaultprevention@nightingale.edu.

11. Who do I contact with questions?

Email bursar@nightingale.edu for anything about your forbearance status or documentation.
