Nightingale’s Transfer Process

At Nightingale College, you can continue your education without unnecessarily repeating eligible coursework. Transfer credits from qualifying institutions that meet our requirements, including general education and select forms of prior learning, are considered according to the guidelines of your chosen nursing program.

Transfer decisions are made through an official review process. Course level, content, credit hours, grades, accreditation, and, for certain subjects, how recently the course was completed may affect whether your transfer credits are accepted. Because each learner’s academic history is unique, the evaluation of your transfer credit is personalized according to your transcripts and chosen nursing program.

 

How It Works

1. Choose Your Program

Start by identifying the Nightingale College program that aligns with your nursing goals. Note that transfer opportunities vary by program. For instance, the BSN Program includes both general education and nursing coursework, while the LPN-to-ASN Program is designed specifically for licensed practical or vocational nurses. Graduate nursing programs have separate transfer requirements.

2. Submit Your Official Transcripts

Official transcripts are required for transfer credit consideration. Transcripts from previous colleges or universities must be submitted according to Nightingale College’s transfer credit deadlines. Applicants with coursework completed outside the United States may also require an official coursework-equivalency evaluation and English translation if applicable.

3. Nightingale Reviews Your Coursework

The College evaluates eligible coursework to determine whether it meets transfer requirements and corresponds with coursework in your selected program. For general education courses, factors may include course level, grade, subject area, laboratory requirements, and course recency where applicable. For nursing courses, Nightingale also considers accreditation, course content, learning outcomes, credit load, grade, and when the course was completed.

4. Receive Your Transfer Credit Evaluation

After the official transcript review, you will receive a transfer credit evaluation showing the coursework approved for transfer. If a course is not included and you believe it should be reconsidered, the College will provide a transfer credit appeal process. Supporting documentation, such as a course syllabus, may be required.

5. Build Your Program Plan

Once your transfer evaluation is complete, your Nightingale program enrollment advisor can help you understand what requirements remain and how your accepted credits fit into your program.

 

Partner Schools

Nightingale College maintains articulation agreements with select partner schools to help create clearer educational pathways for qualifying learners. Applicants from institutions with a valid articulation agreement may receive benefits associated with that agreement. Also, the College provides an application-fee waiver for qualifying applicants from articulation-partner institutions.

FAQ

• Can I transfer credits to Nightingale College?

  Yes. Nightingale considers eligible coursework completed at qualifying institutions. Transfer credit is not automatic, as official transcripts must be reviewed, and each course must meet the applicable Nightingale College and program requirements.

• What grades do I need for my credits to transfer?

  For general education courses, a grade of C or better is required in most cases. For undergraduate and graduate nursing courses, a grade of B- or better is generally required. Nursing coursework is also subject to accreditation, equivalency, credit-hour, and recency requirements.

• Do transfer credits expire?

  Transfer credits can expire, depending on the course. Most general education courses do not have a recency requirement. Human anatomy, human physiology, mathematics, and pathophysiology generally must have been completed within seven years before your anticipated start date. This seven-year requirement does not apply to post licensure programs. Undergraduate and graduate nursing courses generally must have been completed within the previous three years.

• How many credits can I transfer?

  The answer depends on your program and type of credit. As a general College policy, learners must complete at least 50% of the total nursing credits in their program's published curriculum plan at Nightingale College. An exception applies to LPN/LVN learners receiving advanced placement into the BSN or LPN-to ASN-programs, who must complete at least 50% of their core nursing coursework at Nightingale.

  Graduate programs separately limit consideration to a maximum of nine graduate-level transfer credits. Your official transfer credit evaluation will determine the credits that apply to your individual program.

• Can my previous nursing courses transfer?

  Previous nursing courses can transfer, depending on the case. Undergraduate nursing courses must meet Nightingale's requirements for accreditation, course equivalency, credit hours, grades, and recency. If a nursing course does not meet one or more transfer requirements, an eligible learner may be able to request a prior knowledge and skills assessment when an assessment is available.

• Can I transfer credits from a school outside the United States?

  Coursework completed outside the United States may be considered, but learners must provide official transcripts and an official coursework-equivalency evaluation, along with an English translation when necessary.

• Does my LPN or LVN license give me advanced placement?

  Qualified learners with an active, unencumbered LPN/LVN license may be eligible for advanced-placement opportunities in the BSN or LPN-to ASN-programs. Specific course credit, testing, and placement requirements depend on the program.

• Can graduate nursing courses transfer into an MSN program?

  Eligible graduate nursing coursework may be considered. Courses generally must have been completed within the previous three years with a grade of B- or higher and must closely match the content, outcomes, and credit load of the corresponding Nightingale course. No more than nine graduate-level transfer credits will be considered.
