Entrance Exam Specifications

Nightingale College uses the Accuplacer® diagnostic test to determine placement into all pre-licensure programs by assessing knowledge in three (3) areas: Arithmetic, Writing, and Reading. The exam has a total of 65 multiple choice questions. Each learner has three (3) attempts per year to test for placement into a program. Please see Score matrix and placements section for moreinformation regarding scores and their corresponding placements.

What is the passing score/what does my score mean?

The Next-Generation Accuplacer® exam is scored between a scale of 200 to 300.

2. Required to successfully complete the Pre- Algebra foundational course (MAT 90) and the prescribed Learner Success Series before matriculating.

2. Required to successfully complete the prescribed Learner Success Series in the first semester of enrollment.
Reading 1. Not admitted. 1. Admitted, on non-matriculated basis.
2. Required to successfully complete the Developmental English foundational course (ENG 90) and the prescribed Learner Success Series before matriculating.
1. Admitted, with conditional matriculation.
2. Required to successfully complete the English Lab course and the prescribed Learner Success Series in the first semester of enrollment.
1. Admitted, with full matriculation.

* (1) The overall admissions matriculation is based on the lowest score, with the most restrictive admission matriculation decision applied. (2) Each domain’s score is used to determine the programmatic progress requirements.

How do I get my testing results?
You will receive an email from your Admissions Processor within 24-48 business days.

Scheduling 1st Entrance Exam Appointment

Scheduling Entrance Exam Retakes

To schedule a retake of the entrance exam, first get your voucher code from your Admissions Processor.

Once you have received a voucher code, you may follow these steps: 

  1. Go to scheduling website and log in 
  2. Click “schedule exam” 
  3. Enter voucher code provided 
  4. Select date and time – if you want to schedule an appointment within 24 hours, make sure to turn on the “on-demand” option in the top right corner of the scheduling page. Added charges may apply. 
  5. Pay the $25 
  6. Forward your appointment confirmation email to your admissions advisor and Admissions Processor

Advanced Placement HESI

HESI Exam Specifications

Nightingale College uses multiple standard HESI exams to determine advanced placement into any pre-licensure programs based on eligibility. To be eligible for advanced placement, a learner must provide proof of an active, unencumbered LPN/LVN license to the Admissions department or submit official nursing-level transcripts for the registrar to review.  If you have questions regarding your eligibility, please contact your admissions advisor or admissions@nightngale.edu.

    The passing score is an 850 or higher. All advanced placement HESIs have the same score requirements.

    There are no official study materials provided for the HESI exams as they are treated like knowledge assessment exams. Below is a list of resources that you may find useful to refresh with.

  • Scheduling 1st HESI Appointment

    Before scheduling, you will need to check your computer’s compatibility: 

    1. This link will test system requirements for HESIs.

    3. You can also check requirements when logging into your Examity profile: https://prod.examity.com/HESI/  
    4. Log into your account 
    5. Click “My Profile” 
    6. Click “Computer Requirements Check” in the top right-hand side

  • Scheduling a HESI Retake

    To schedule a retake of a HESI exam, first make sure you have submitted your $45 HESI exam fee.

    Once you have received confirmation from your Admissions Processor that you have been set up for the exam you paid for, you may follow these steps: 

    1. Check computer compatibility again here and here 
    2. Go to scheduling website and log in 
    3. Click “schedule exam” 
    4. Select available HESI exam 
    5. Select date and time – if you want to schedule an appointment within 24 hours, make sure to turn on the “on-demand” option in the top right corner of the scheduling page. Added charges may apply. 
    6. Pay the $24 
    7. Forward your appointment confirmation email to your admissions advisor and Admissions Processor
