ADA Policy

The purpose of the Americans with Disabilities Act Policy at Nightingale College is to offer accommodations and services for learners with disabilities that will provide equal access to the College and College-related activities. The College provides individualized support for learners diagnosed with specific learning disabilities or for those with other disabilities who meet federal guidelines. Although the College is mandated by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the ADA Amendments Act to provide these services, it is the intention of the College to serve our learners with disabilities in a caring and respectful manner that assists them in developing their independence.

Accommodations are provided to allow learners diagnosed with specific learning disabilities and those with other disabilities who meet federal guidelines (e.g., attention, health, hearing, learning, mobility, physical, psychiatric or vision) or those learners with short-term issues such as broken bones, equal access to an education at Nightingale College. Before any accommodations are made, it is the learner’s responsibility to request accommodations from the College by disclosing his/her disability or special learning need. Please be aware that the College is not able to provide retroactive accommodations, and that arranging specific accommodation could require several weeks. We want to make sure all your accommodations are in place when your courses begin.

Process for granting learner accommodation:

1. Formal written request for accommodation by a learner accompanied with filled out Application for the Reasonable Learning Accommodation Form and appropriate medical documentation.

2. Learner Services will form a committee that will determine whether a learner is qualified for accommodation(s) based on submitted materials.

3. Written notice will be sent to the learner of the committee’s decision with specific accommodations, if any, within 10 business days of receipt of the learner’s letter and documentation.

4. The letter from the ADA committee with the learner’s documented disability and request for accommodation will be provided to the learner’s individual faculty.
