Director

Makes suggestions for improvement, and approaches problems with a solution mindset. Identifies change agents within their function to do innovative design. Engages OE to do innovative design projects. Looks for opportunities for cross-functional improvement. Creates environment where taking risks to innovate is the norm.

Senior Leadership

Continually approaches personal and professional situations with thoughtfulness, questions the status quo, and identifies opportunities for improvement. Makes suggestions for improvement, and approaches problems with a solution mindset. Intentionally designs changes to achieve desired outcomes. Externally questions the status quo. Defines priorities for organizational innovation. Ensures well-designed changes. Orchestrates innovations to be mutually supportive.

Skilled

  • Follows the Reframework and/or engages Continuous Improvement Consultant.
  • Makes data-driven decisions.
  • Understand the difference between research and improvement science.
  • Identifies success metrics in advance of implementing changes.
  • Holds semesterly reviews of function or role KPIs to evaluate success and identify ways to improve.
  • Encourages collaborators to question policies, processes, group norms, etc.

Less Skilled

  • Creates projects or interventions based on anecdotes, hunches, or guesses.
  • When approached with questions about why processes are in place, says that’s just the way we do things.
  • Discounts ideas based on who it’s coming from.
  • (Overused) Innovates for the sake of innovation but does not fully define the problem or track the results.
  • (Overused) Implements multiple interventions at once so cannot determine the effectiveness of each.
